What we collect

What Protein Is Healthy stores about a visit, and what it does not.

Accounts

Accounts and forms

We have no reader accounts, comments, newsletter or forms.

Cookies

Cookies and scripts

Our pages set no cookies in your browser.

They load no ads, analytics or outside scripts, and no fonts or images from other sites.

Goals

Goal checklists

Some field notes include goal checklists. If you choose to have your ticks remembered, your browser stores them on your device. They never reach us.

Photos

Photos in our notes

We keep the photos our editors add to field notes. Before you see one, we remove hidden data from the file, such as where it was taken.

Arrivals

Arrivals from AI answers

When a link in an AI answer service, such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot or Claude, brings you here, we add one to that day's count for the service and the page.

We store the date, the service name and the page address, nothing more: no IP address, no browser details, no cookie, no full referring address. We delete counts after 400 days.

Where from

How readers find us

When you open one of our pages, we add one to that day's count for the page and for how you got here: a search engine on our list (Google or Bing, for example), a social site on our list (Facebook or Reddit, for example), an AI answer service, some other website, or no link at all. Clicking a link from one of our pages to another adds nothing. If you go back to a page or reload it, we may count it again, because your browser can ask for it again and tell us how you first got here.

We look at the page you came from only to tell which of these it was, and at your browser details only to skip programs that load pages on their own. We store the date, the page and the source, nothing more: no IP address, no browser details, no cookie, no referring address. We delete counts after 400 days.

Crawlers

Search and AI crawlers

Search engines and AI services send programs, called crawlers, to read our pages. When a request carries the name of a known crawler, such as Googlebot, Bingbot, GPTBot or ClaudeBot, we add one to that day's count for the crawler, the kind of page and the kind of answer we gave.

We look at a request's browser details only to spot a crawler's name; a request without one adds nothing to our counts. We store the date, the crawler name, the kind of page and the kind of answer, nothing more: no IP address, no browser details, no page address. We delete counts after 90 days.

Addresses

Old and missing addresses

When a field note moves to a new address, the old address takes you to the new one, and our editing software counts how often each old address is used and when it was last used.

When you ask for an address we do not have, the software notes that address, when it was first and last asked for, and how often, so we can repair broken links. It keeps at most 10,000 addresses and removes the least recently asked for first.

We keep no network address, browser details or referring page in either record.

Servers

Where our pages come from

Cloudflare's network delivers our pages. Our own code keeps no record of who reads them.

Mailbox

Mail you send us

Email you send us arrives in our mailbox, outside this site. The site keeps none of it.

Reviewer data

What we keep about our reviewers

For each health reviewer, we keep their name, their qualification, the body that issued it, an address where it can be checked, the review areas they cover, the date they agreed to be named and the editor account they sign in with. We also keep who added them and when, who checked the qualification and when, and who deactivated them and when.

You see only a reviewer's name, qualification and review areas, on the notes they reviewed and on our reviewers page.

For each decision on a note, approve or reject, we keep the version, its address and the subject and review areas it covers, the reviewer's statement, the confirmation they gave with an approval, their name and qualification at the time, the account that decided and the time. We also keep which editor accounts saved each note's text and when each first did, so that no reviewer approves a note they edited.

We never change or delete these records, and we keep them for at least seven years. Every night we copy each decision to our private archive repository, which never removes one. Our nightly encrypted backup of the whole site, kept for 90 days, holds all of these records too.

Grievance mail

Grievances you send

A grievance you email to our grievance officer arrives in their mailbox, outside this site. The site keeps none of it.
